Rather than focusing on a specific subject matter, Rebecca relies on a high level of detail and a strong sense of light to tie her work together. Viewers often comment that they feel as if they could step into her paintings; as if the frame was a window to another world. Her subject matter ranges from Texas landscapes and florals to figures and paintings of glass that depict every reflection. Rebecca paints primarily in acrylics, and more recently in water-soluble oils.
Rebecca is a member of NOAPS (National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society) and will be featured in the upcoming book "Best of America Watermedia Artists Volume II published by Kennedy Publishing due out in late June. A percentage of sales from this show will be donated to the nonprofit "The Alliance for Plasma Therapies" to help them continue to film the documentary "Dying for Help" by award winning director Mike Walter. The feature length documentary chronicles the battles facing patients with rare diseases, who must fight for the life saving therapies they desperately need. Rebecca was diagnosed in 2008 with a rare immune deficiency that has plagued her all her life and nearly took it 2 years ago. She now receives intravenous antibodies every 3 weeks that her insurance thankfully covers. Others are not so fortunate. The documentary tells their stories. The promotional piece for this show, "Hands by Candlelight," is an older painting, but seemed most appropriate for this solo show. Most viewers see "hope" in this painting. For Rebecca, being able to continue painting helped keep her hope alive. Hope for a correct diagnosis, treatment and return to a near-normal life. She believes others with rare disease deserve that same hope. To learn more about the documentary visit |
